Just for kicks, I thought I would see how high I could kick up someone's AC in theory. The rules are to use just the PHB and DMG, no stacking magical effects on items, no spells, and no circumstance modifiers. Here's what I got:

THE CHARACTER

20th level halfling monk
Dex 30 (18 Base, +2 Racial, +5 Levels, +5 inherent)
Wis 22 (18 Base, +4 inherent)
Dodge and Expertise feats
5 or more ranks of Tumble

THE GEAR

Gloves of Dexterity +6
Ioun Stone of Wisdom +2
Amulet of Natural Armor +5
Cloak of Deflection +5
Bracers of Armor +8
2 +5 Kamas of Defending
Ring of Force Shield
Monk's Belt

THE CIRCUMSTANCE

Expertise for +5
Dodge for +1
Fight Defensively for +3
Draw fully from both weapons for +10
Activate Haste for +4

THE TOTAL

10 Base
+1 Size
+13 Dex
+7 Wis
+4 Monk AC
+3 Fight Defensively
+5 Expertise
+5 Natural
+5 Deflection
+8 Armor
+1 Dodge
+10 Defending
+2 Shield
+4 Haste
-------------------------
=78

Can't catch me.

You have just give Jim a new goal, that is, if he still reads these posts.

Jon, don't power attack this guy.

He's a halfling, just put him in the bag. That is, if Toby isn't already in there.

I bought a new bag after last adventure. I can fit like ten halflings in it.

What's his total attack bonus going to be at this point? +2?

Oh and I can power attack him as much as I want, because if I rage, charge, and find higher ground, I still need a twenty to hit the motherfucker on my first attack. So full power attack. He'll die in one hit.

p.s. "cloak of deflection" is fake. Drop the ring of force shield. Buy a ring of deflection and a +5 Animated large shield. AC bumps up five points for a total of 83. Now you have your cloak slot free for displacement, in case you need a miss chance or something.

If he's taken weapon finesse(kama) his total attack bonus is:

+15 Base attack
-4 Defensive Fighting
-5 Expertise
-1 Small
+10 Dex
-------------
+15 total, +13 if he flurries, for 6 attacks at:

+13/+13/+10/+7/+4/+1

But his armor class is 78.

Now if he doesn't use Expertise or his defending weapons his AB jumps to +24, which has a pretty good chance to hit most guys with normal ACs, and his own AC falls to a petty 69. You still can't hit that Jon.

He can't flurry because he is using two weapons.

and if he isn't going to go all out defense, it's wiser to stop "Fighting defensively" than it is to give back his one-for-one conversion on his defending weapons.

Oh, and chris, small combatants gain +1 to hit.

He most certainly can flurry, they are both special monk weapons.

I dunno. I'm looking at monk fighting stuff on p. 39 in the PHB, and it seems as if you can't have your cake and eat it. Or in this case, you can't have your two weapon fighting and your flurry of blows.

It's clear you can't two weapon when fighting unarmed. No argument there, right?

"A monk fighting with a one-handed weapon can make an unarmed strike as an off-hand attack, but she suffers the standard penalties for two-weapon fighting. Likewise, a monk with a weapon (other than a special monk weapon) in her off hand gets an extra attack with that weapon but suffers the usual penalties for two-weapon fighting and can't strike with a flurry of blows."

I don't know man. there is also the passage about two weapon fighting makes no sense for a monk fighting unarmed. I keep reading it over and over and all I come up with is, "DON'T DO THIS, YOU FUCKING RULES LAWYER." And I go back to playing barbarians.

Jon is right- you can't flurry with two weapons as a monk.

Okay, Jon is right about the ring/cloak thing. However, I would like to note that I did this without any books.
